This activity was done in order to exchange research ideas and share what we do individually in our own work, as well as to build a network in the research community.

The project involved two portions, a seminar given by Dr. Dong-sung Lee followed by a poster session. In the seminar, Dr. Lee gave a talk on their current work on bioinformatics involving single cell genome sequencing of DNA methylation. After the talk, the students moved to the interactive space to discuss posters with one another and share their work in the poster session. The bioconference concluded by handing out certificates to the UOS students who participated.

Dr. Leefs seminar was such an awesome talk since the work he discussed I rarely hear about in person. He talked about how they were able to resolve even cell type differences in neuronal cells using DNA methylation. The images shown in the seminar were very complex but also interestingly informative on how such huge amounts of data is used in biology, and although I did not make it to the entire talk, it was very interesting to me and I learned a lot.
The in the bioconference, there were also a lot of studies (especially on bioinformatics) that I donft see very often, so seeing the posters from the UOS studentsf research was good to understand what they do for research, especially for the students that were not assigned to us in the lab experience. The research exchange between TMU and UOS really does come together in this activity, and it was a really interesting experience.

I think the TMU-UOS bioconference was a nice way for the students from both universities to get to know each otherfs work, especially since there are a lot of cases where the research that the UOS people do are very different from the ones we do in TMU. It is a good way also to build a network for collaborations between different research groups in the future. I think a point of improvement in this matter is better coordination with the Bioconference happening independently in TMU. It was quite difficult to get TMU students to participate in the TMU-UOS one since a lot of the TMU students in the biology department participated in another bioconference just a week before. I think it would have been more enriching for everyone involved to have been able to combine the TMU Biology and the TMU-UOS bioconferences together, especially since they were happening so close to each other.
