<概要/目的>
To gain better understanding in the research, exchanging the research knowledge with the people from the different field is a good thing to be done. In this great exchange program, we aim to broaden our horizon in the research by explaining and discussing each others work that we usually do, as well as improving our language skill so that people will understand about the information that we want to deliver.

<方法/企画としての特徴>
Have the UOS student stay and learn the research for four days. During those days, we attempt to exchange the information of each other's research field and discuss the research. Moreover, experimental activities will be performed to give better understanding in the real research. Giving the information and doing the experiment are important factors to successfully distribute the knowledge.

<活動内容/具体的成果>
Day 1
1. Discussion about each others research content.
I explained the main research of my laboratory to her using slides, video, and poster. She also explained what kind of research she is doing in UOS



2. Tour to the greenhouse
In order to give her a better understanding about the plant that we usually use in our experiment, I invited her to go to the greenhouse to see the plant used for the experiment. I explained how to select a good flower so that we can obtain a good quality of sperm cell and egg cell for gametes isolation.

Day 2
1. Isolation of the rice ovaries, cutting procedure of rice ovaries, and isolation of egg cell.
After getting the sample from the greenhouse,I taught her about the mechanical technique to isolate the rice ovaries under the microscope. It was quite difficult for her to remove the rice bracts and isolate the rice ovaries. Then, cutting procedure using razor blade also was being taught and isolation the egg cell under the microscope. At the end of the experiment, she could obtain one egg cell and transferred it successfully to the droplet.

Day 3
1. Isolation of the rice sperm cells.
I explained about how to isolate the rice sperm cell by breaking the anther using forcep inside mannitol solution. After that, I explained about how to isolate the sperm cell under microscope . This technique was quite easy for her, but since the rice sperm cell was very small, it took longer time for her to isolate the sperms cell.

Day 4
1. In vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure in rice.
We both isolated egg cell and sperm cell of rice. After getting those gametes. I taught her how to do in vitro fertilization in rice. At the beginning, she could not do it, but at the end she could successfully fuse the gametes of rice and obtain the zygote.

<感想/課題など(企画力/評価力/自主性等の向上を含む)>

One of UOS student came to our laboratory since 18/11/19 until 18/11/22, her name is Park Sohyun. She was 4th years student and will graduate soon in her university. In her first day in our laboratory, we were very glad to meet her, she was very kind and started to learn about our work in laboratory. Second day she started to pick up the rice flower in green house and learned to isolate the ovary, I taught her how to cut the ovary to release the egg cells using razor blade. She was very talented, in her first time trying she could isolate the rice egg cell. In the evening we held welcoming party for her, I was very glad to discus and talking with her, about culture and our study. In her last day we took picture and went together to department seminar in International House, the speaker was her supervisor from UOS. It was very impressive as long as she here in our laboratory (Hanifah Aini, M1).


私は主に、イネの卵細胞・精細胞の単利の方法やそれら細胞の融合のやり方を説明したり、実際に実演して理解を深めてもらった。英語が得意でないので、あらかじめパワーポイントで模式図を作成して説明の手助けとして利用したりした。また、細胞の単利はほかの細胞と見分けが困難であるので、随時細胞の判別をしました。これらの作業は非常に時間がかかるので、これを応用した実験の話にあまり時間をさくことができなかったことが反省点でありました。また、研究室内での交流を深めるために研究室内での食事会を企画・運営にも携わりました。お互いの国の文化や、研究の話をフランクに話し合えたので、自身にとってもラボのメンバーにとっても有意義な時間になったと感じています。(M1 出牛 稜也)
