Experiencing the atmosphere of international exchange program in University of Seoul and expanding the knowledge of Biology through communication in English.


＜方法／企画としての特徴＞Method feature

1.Exchanging the knowledge between Tokyo Metropolitan University and University of Seoul by joining the laboratory for few days, doing experiment together, and attending the symposium, and doing oral presentation.
2. Learning Korean culture and experiencing the beauty of Korea by going to the sightseeing places.

We arrived at Incheon airport about 3 PM and went to the UOS by bus. We got off from the bus at Cheongyangri Station, nearby the University of Seoul. After having a short time of rest, we were invited to the welcome party held by UOS students. They introduced us about UOS and warmly welcomed us. After the UOS introduction was finished, We also introduced Tokyo Metropolitan University and told them about the department that we belong to.

1. At 10.00 AM, We had a campus tour. UOS students introduced us about the old and new buildings in UOS, laboratories, and some of the essential buildings that are used for anniversary. The thing that I was interested the most for campus tour was the building that showed the the history of UOS, since it was created and up to this time. I could see how much the improvement was progressed, the achievement they got, the important people who graduated from UOS, and the universities that have a good cooperation with UOS.
2. I went to the laboratory of Molecular Physiology Laboratory.
At the beginning, I introduced myself to all lab members, and explaining my research to them. They also explained me about their research and taught me about Western blot method. I got the general protocol for western blotting that will be used also for the next experiment. We did not have enough time to continue the experiment since western blot needs incubation time, so during the waiting time, I was brought to another lab to listen the explanation of their lab.

3. Lab members held a welcome party for me at the dinner time.

Since western blot needed two days of working day, so we continued doing yesterday's experiment. I learned about how to make the gel electrophoresis. The lab member taught me about the mechanism how the protein can be separated using gel electrophoresis. He taught me also about the function of antibody, and showed me the result of his target protein levels. The senior taught me very well, so I could understand about the method.

We experienced the culture and beauty of Korea by eating korean food, going to the sightseeing places, e.g Gyongbokgung palace and Hanok Bukchon Village and wearing traditional Korean clothes, "Hanbok".
We had a very good time since we went to many places. Even though the weather was very cold, but luckily we could enjoy the time.

02/01
I attended the symposium of UOS-TMU. I obtained much knowledge by attending this occasion. I also felt honored since I could do oral presentation and present my current research. The people kept asking me questions that did help me to understand my research deeply.
I also joined the poster session and asked many questions during poster session time. UOS and TMU students are doing very interesting researches that are very helpful to boost my knowledge.

We went to the Incheon airport and UOS students escorted us. We arrived safely at Narita airport in the noon.

International exchange program in University of Seoul is a program that needs to be maintained. It is very helpful since the students can learn many things, for example; new research, new knowledge, new idea and communication skill. It is indeed make the students be brave in explaining their own researches in English, and learn their researches deeply. It was my first time doing western blot method, and I felt happy that I could learn it. I hope I can apply it someday for my own research. It was my pleasure that I could join such a wonderful exchange program in UOS, do oral presentation in another country and learn many things. Thank you TMU and UOS.
