Outline
Make some 3-5 minute videos (with subtitles in English, Japanese and Chinese) for overseas general public audiences. We will promote the interest of Drosophila genetics to many people, including those from overseas through Youtube.

Purpose
1.        To improve our outreach capabilities
Since last year, we were not able to conduct active outreach activities due to the corona problem. Although the corona problem has not been solved yet, we have recently seen how to disseminate our research using online tools and other methods. Therefore, through the activity of creating and sending out a video introducing Drosophila research at TMU, we will learn how to communicate in an easy-to-understand manner to the general public and researchers at other institutions (tentative, as the target is yet to be determined). We will also think about our research using Drosophila again and notice its strengths, attractiveness, and interest.
2.        To improve language skills
Although many doctoral students and international students belong to the Evolutionary Genetics Laboratory, we did not have many opportunities to work together daily. By working together with international students to film and edit the PR video with English subtitles, we will improve our ability to discuss and communicate in English. (I think this is an important point for the international practice exercise.
3.        To improve our teaching skills
The theme of our group's video is Daily Duties. Our goal was to learn how to teach others through the process of making a video, even if it was a task we don't usually do.

Methods feature
To create detailed and easy-to-understand videos so that many people can understand the daily tasks required when dealing with Drosophila just by watching the videos.

What you did
Our group made the video, making fly-food, making cotton plugs, putting the cotton plugs in the glass vials and washing the glass bials. Each member performed the necessary daily tasks and recorded them to create a video. In addition, subtitles were prepared and attached to the video to explain what kind of work was being done in an easy-to-understand manner.

Comments
Chen: We had several meetings to determine the way to make the video and the division of labor. I involved the part of making cotton plug as the performer and other parts as the camera man. Also, I translated the subtitles in our 4 videos into Chinese for overseas general public audiences and checked the edited videos. In this project, cooperation is the best I learnt as everyone took charge in appropriate part to make this video.

Fujichika: I was in charge of the overall summary of this project and the bottle washing part of the video. To organize the whole project, I had to be conscious of how to communicate in a way that was easy for everyone to understand, which gave me an opportunity to improve my language skills. I was also able to summarize the main points of the bottle washing process in order to make a short video, which gave me an opportunity to reconfirm what I need to pay attention to when teaching others.

Kumagai: I was in charge of directing what kind of video to make and editing the video. At first, the direction of the message was not clear, but I was able to discuss with other members and made it into one video, which gave me confidence. It was also a good experience for me to learn how to edit videos, which I was not used to. This time, due to the influence of covid-19, we were only able to have people watch the video and not interact with each other, so I would like to do something face-to-face next time.

Singh- In this project I get an opportunity to check the subtitles in English and to make it easy understandable for overseas people and also, I was involved in the food preparation part though short video we tried to cover the whole process in fly food preparation under daily duties. By this project, it was good opportunity to interact people and learn other duties by other group members.

Tamura:I involved the part of how to make fly food as the performer and other parts as the camera man. It was difficult to make it while explaining the process that I usually do in English.  I have created a base for English subtitles for how to make fly food. It was difficult to summarize the main points that even people who saw it for the first time could understand, but it was a learning experience.  It was fun to be able to work while discussing with everyone.
